Everyone loves a hero, we look up to them and we imagine ourselves being one someday.  But just what is a hero?

Dictionary.com defines a hero as.

he·ro [heer-oh] noun, plural heroes.

1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child.

  1. the principal male or female character in a story, play, film, etc.
The list above gives us a glimpse of what a hero is.  Last week I videoed many of you answering the question what is a hero.  The majority stated that a hero is someone who saves someone.  That is a great definition as well.  Lets face it if you save someone then you should be considered a hero.  But what defines saving someone?  Do they have to  be saved from dying, or from some horrible injury, or from making a horrible embarrassing mistake?  Saving someone has many definitions, and we all need saving from time to time.

The world loves a hero, look at movies and books, they are crammed packed with hero’s doing what hero’s do, saving people or themselves.

Here’s a question for you what about a person who stands up against the odds to do something that is against the culture, or the way everyone else does it?  Could that person be a hero?  Or what about a person who does something, like saving a life but is never noticed or recognized for it, could that person be a hero?  Or what about you could you be a hero, could you do something that changes a persons life so they are never the same, change them for the better, could you do that?   Would that make you a hero?

Here is my definition of a hero.  “A person, who makes a radial impact on another person causing that person to be completely changed because of the interaction or experience.”   In your mind would that be a hero?   If you agree, then be encouraged, you are already a hero...  We all love hero’s and we are all hero’s waiting for the chance to do what hero’s do...”Save a life.”
